When Should You Book Your Newborn’s Photo Session?

When it comes to capturing those early moments of your newborn baby, scheduling a photoshoot is a wonderful way to freeze those memories in time. The first days and weeks go by so quickly, but you don’t want to forget all of their little features!

The process of booking a newborn photoshoot can feel overwhelming, especially for new parents. However, with a little planning and preparation, you can enjoy a smooth and successful session that will result in beautiful keepsakes for years to come.

So what’s the process for booking a newborn session? While that does vary from photographer to photographer, here are some things to consider, no matter who you work with!

Communicate Early

It’s a good idea to start researching and contacting newborn photographers during your pregnancy. This way, you can discuss your preferences, book a session in advance, and have one less thing to worry about once the baby arrives. It’s much easier to make preparations before your little ones arrives than after when everything is a bit of a blur. You will be thankful for all your prep work when the time comes for your session!

Timing is Key

The ideal time to schedule a newborn photoshoot is within the first two weeks after birth. During this period, babies are still very sleepy and flexible, making it easier to pose them for those adorable shots and get the sleeping portraits that parents love so much. Some photographers will see babies after the two week mark, while others have an even smaller window. Whichever photographer you choose, make sure you know their studio policies for newborns so you don’t accidently miss this window.

Flexible Scheduling

Since babies don’t always arrive according to schedule, most photographers understand that flexibility is key. Find out each photographer’s process for once baby arrives and be sure to choose a photographer who can accommodate last-minute changes to the session date if needed. At our Huntsville studio, we pencil in your session for your due date. Once you baby arrives, call us and we can set a concrete date and time.

Prepare in Advance

Before the photoshoot, make sure to have everything ready. This includes feeding the baby beforehand, bringing extra diapers and outfits, and having any props or special items you want to include in the photos. Ask your photographer if they have any recommendations for what you need to bring. Many will send you a list or prep guide to take the guess work out for you.

By following these tips, you can enjoy a stress-free and smooth newborn photoshoot experience that will result in stunning images of your little one to cherish for a lifetime.
